Thrive Market: My Latest Obsession

I know you guys hear me talk about my love for Trader Joe’s [way too] often, but I’m not sure that I’ve mentioned my not-so-recent obsession with Thrive Market.

(Speaking of which, I think I should probably do a post soon on my favorite TJ’s products. What do you think?)

First, let me give you a little background, since I’m sure many of you have never heard of this before. Simply put, Thrive Market is an online grocery store that offers natural and organic goods at wholesale prices. What exactly does that mean? Well, imagine if you took the high-end, organic brands that Whole Foods offers, layered on Costco’s incredible pricing model and then tossed it all into the (dangerous) ease of Amazon’s online platform — it’s kind of like that.

Thrive Market has direct relationships with some of the most popular brands in the wellness world, like Bob’s Red Mill, Seventh Generation and Burt’s Bees; these relationships allow them to offer such reasonable prices to their members. They have something like 2,500+ products available — food and vitamins, home and beauty products, and everything in between. They’ve even started offering their own Thrive Market Brand line of products, and I can attest that the quality is superb. In fact, I buy most of my pantry staples from their line, rather than from the brand names that would likely cost a few dollars more.

New customers are given a 30-day free trial, at which point there is an annual $59.95 membership fee. Now let’s get something straight –normally I’m not a membership-fee kinda gal. But each time you place an order on Thrive, they share your current savings (based on typical retailer’s pricing), lifetime savings to date and then a projected annual savings. If you know anything about me, it’s that your girl LOVES a deal. So when I see that my lifetime savings over the last year and a half is $1,805.62 (yup, you read that right), it is REAL easy to justify that membership cost.

Also! I think it’s important to mention that the products I’m buying on Thrive Market are items I would typically be purchasing anyways — healthy snacks, basic pantry staples, beauty products, home & cleaning supplies. I’m just getting them for 20-50% cheaper on Thrive than I would at my local Whole Foods, Target or CVS. That in itself is my reason for joining. However, I want to be clear that I would not recommend Thrive to anyone who doesn’t routinely buy these types of products. If you tend not to purchase slightly bougie products that are clean, organic and/or geared towards special diets, you probably aren’t going to get the same benefit out of Thrive that I do.

Another thing that is really awesome about this company is that for every paid membership, they donate a membership to a low-income family. Their mission is to provide easy access to healthy, affordable food for those who might otherwise not be able to do so on their own — veterans, teachers, students, families. They aim to educate, making healthy living easy and affordable to everyone. I really, really love what this brand stands behind.

Alright, enough big picture. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of why I love Thrive Market. First off, their website and app is SO easy to use (too easy, if you ask me). You can sort and filter by diet or dietary need – gluten-free, organic, paleo, vegan, etc. Shipping is always free over $49. I usually add items to my cart every time I think of something we need, and then check out once I reach $49. There are monthly deals on certain brands, which provide either an additional percentage off (usually between 5-15%) or allow you to earn Thrive Cash on purchases.

My favorite promotion that Thrive offers (and likely what drew me in in the first place) is their free gift. Every day or two I receive an email from Thrive with their daily deal, which you typically get “free” upon spending either $49 or $69 (depending on the product). I have discovered so many of my now-favorite brands this way! As I mentioned, I usually add items to my cart as we need them — sometimes I wait until I reach $49, but often times I’ll continue waiting until there is a free gift that I like. Four Sigmatic, Hu Kitchen, Skinny Dipped — just a few of the brands I received free with a purchase and now order regularly. Clearly I am their target market!

FAVORITE PRODUCTS

Simple Mills Sea Salt Crackers: Simple Mills is easily one of my top three favorite grain-free brands of all time. I first learned about their crackers on instagram (of course), but they have so many more products — cookies, cake & muffin mix, frostings, pizza dough — all equally as delicious. These sea salt crackers are made using a nut & seed blend; they are crunchy & flavorful, with the perfect amount of salt. Thrive carries a ton of their products, so I highly suggest you try them all!

Siete Sea Salt Grain Free Tortilla Chips: Siete is another of my grain-free favorites; their tortilla chips are SO addicting. In addition to Sea Salt, they have other delicious flavors available on Thrive (I also love Nacho and Lime). Your local Whole Foods may carry Siete products, but even on sale they can’t beat the Thrive member price!

Santa Cruz Organic Dark Roasted Crunchy Peanut Butter: Peter goes through roughly a jar of peanut butter per week, so I tend to buy in bulk. This dark roasted pb from the brand Santa Cruz is our current favorite (knocking Teddie to a very close second). I discovered it on Thrive and, until Costco starts to sell it in their standard “family size” tubs, I’ll continue to include this our weekly orders.

Calbee Harvest Snaps: I am seriously addicted to these. I know I can probably find these on sale for 2 for $3 at S&S or Shaws, but can easily justify paying the extra $0.39 per bag for the convenience of having them delivered straight to my door. Sometimes I’ll toss two in my cart when I need to add a few more dollars to reach $49 for free shipping or a free gift.

Matcha Love Organic Stone Ground Green Tea Powder: as you guys know, I love my morning matcha latte. I’m constantly trying out new matcha brands to find the best combination of quality and price. This brand is (very!) reasonably priced; I think it tastes similar to the high quality, more expensive brands.

Purely Elizabeth Chocolate Sea Salt Probiotic Granola:.I am obsessed with all Purely Elizabeth granolas, but this particular flavor is at the top of my list. It’s the perfect combo of salty & sweet, plus you get some extra probiotic benefits. It’s not uncommon to find a bag (or two) stashed in my pantry at all times — such a satisfying snack. I also suggest trying the pumpkin cinnamon!

Simply 7 Barbecue Quinoa Chips:.Peter and I discovered this snack randomly at a rest stop years ago, and have been addicted ever since. I really like Simply 7’s mission — delicious snacks using just a few clean, simple ingredients (all GF too!). The barbecue quinoa chips are my all-time favorite of their products.

Also, you really can’t beat the Thrive Market Brand prices for basic pantry staples. Most often I buy their spices, baking flours and grains. The quality is on par with the other brand names you’d spend 50% more on! Next on my list of items to try: whole bean coffee, pantry items and canned goods. Stay tuned!
