Stitch Fix: Numero Dos

The delay in my life is approaching unreal proportions.

For example (okay, a few examples): I have over a thousand photos from our trip to France back in OCTOBER that I’ve barely glanced through, let alone edited and shared. I have Thanksgiving and Christmas recipes that I’ve been dying to post for you guys, which I’ll probably have to re-make, photograph and share next JULY. I also have a host of recipes I worked on last summer (you know, when I had a little more free time… or something) that will likely make an appearance in 2017 at the earliest. Honestly, could I be more behind?! My life is like a big time machine whose buttons are all broken and covered in maple syrup.

wait. what?

Stitch Fix | Confessions of a Midnight Baker

Speaking of being behind, let’s talk about my second Stitch Fix delivery (four months later, nbd)! I scheduled it back in August, for delivery at the end of October – right after we got home from France. I’m pretty sure my thought process was that I’d need a pick-me-up upon arriving home after two weeks traipsing through one of the most gorgeous countries on the planet  – but what AWFUL timing! Nothing fit me properly, due to my excessive croissant and wine intake, and I didn’t have any money left to spend on clothes! How silly of me! Lesson learned, believe me.

…welllllll, maybe not. I had my third Fix delivered right after the New Year. You know, after I spent the better part of the holiday season stuffing my face with delicious baked goodies and spending every last dollar left to my name on Christmas gifts & dinners with friends. Talia, you fail so hard at life sometimes. #lessonnotlearned

Irregardless. My second Fix was not nearly as successful as my first, unfortunately. Let me share with you some poorly taken photos and nonsensical babble to illustrate my point!

(and probably a few more run-on sentences. because, you know, I’m really good at those)

Market and Spruce| Benzer Mixed Material Sweater ($78)

Stitch Fix Number Two | Confessions of a Midnight Baker

First up: a mixed-media burgundy sweater with a faux shirt detail. I’m loving burgundy this winter – so much so that I had purchased a similar baggy, burgundy sweater just weeks before receiving this Fix! This particular one even had a fun, blouse-y detail at the bottom. However, the price point was a little high for me – especially when my look-alike only set me back a mere $14 (thank you, Forever21). Though there were enough pros in favor of keeping this sweater (sleeves that were long enough, warm & non-scratchy material, great color), the cons were deal-breakers – the price, the fit (it was a little too baggy to be flattering), and the fact that I already had a similar item sitting in my closet. And so this was a no… bummer.

41Hawthorn | Moni Studded Detailed 3/4 Sleeve Blouse ($58)

Stitch Fix Number Two | Confessions of a Midnight BakerSecond in this Fix: a black 3/4 sleeve blouse. This shirt had a cool gold grommet design on the front and the sleeves; there was also a really interesting detail on the sleeve (not-pictured). However, it just didn’t grab me. I don’t think the fit was entirely that flattering and, as you can probably see from the photo, it was a little see-through. Definitely not a keeper – ain’t nobody gotta see my belly-button ring through my shirt.

Loveappella | Whitnee Button Neck Shift Dress ($64)

Stitch Fix Number Two | Confessions of a Midnight Baker

This time around, I had requested some items that were appropriate for both work and real life – enter: this navy blue shift dress. I probably did a poor job of styling it, but the fit just wasn’t doing anything for me (because, well, croissants). It was snug in alllll the wrong places. Seriously, who wants to wear a fitted dress in the middle of winter?! I don’t need or want to show off my winter weight, thank you very much. There were a few pros to this dress: it was super comfy and – again – the sleeves were long enough (in case you haven’t guessed, that is a HUGE win in my book). Also, I don’t own anything like it – for the exact reason that fitted clothing + winter do not mix. That said, this dress was unfortunately a no.

Just Black | Adorra Skinny Jean ($88)

Stitch Fix Number Two | Confessions of a Midnight Baker

Do I really need another pair of jeans? The real answer to that question is no. However, what actually occurred is a totally different story…

A major issue I’ve always had with jeans is the sizing. My waist need a different size than my thighs, and I always (always) need pants that come in long – that is, a 34″ inseam or more. Since my Style Profile includes exact body measurements, Stitch Fix is able to select items for me that are appropriately sized – specifically when it comes to pants. These jeans are sized accordingly to waist measurement, rather than by pants size, which I always find to be more accurate. And since I can never turn down a pair of perfectly-fitting jeans… these were keepers.

Octavia | Gilbert Houndstooth Knit Infinity Scarf ($32)

Stitch Fix Number Two | Confessions of a Midnight Baker

I have an awful obsession with scarves. Awful as in I have a hard time saying no to a moderately-price scarf and, as a result, own enough of them to wear a different one each day of the year. I don’t necessarily see a major issue with this, but my wallet (and current lack of closet space) may beg to differ. This infinity scarf was SO SOFT. Like the cozy, warm, curl-up-by-the-fire kind of soft. It wrapped around my neck so easily that I almost caved upon contact. Unfortunately – the colors? Not so much. I love the houndstooth pattern, but the red is so bold and I couldn’t find much to pair it with. And with that, the scarf got sent back. I give myself an A+ in self-control!

  .

There you have it. This Fix wasn’t nearly as exciting as my first and I ended up keeping only one item – the Just Black jeans. However, spoiler alert: my next Fix was a total winner! So stay tuned for more Stitch Fix fun :)

In the meantime, I’ll try and bake something yummy to share with you guys in the near future. And you have complete permission to yell at me if I don’t hold up my end of the bargain! Someone’s got to hold me accountable, sheesh.
